A Bedroom of Sabine's Own

Like any adventurous 4-year-old, Sabine loves to be independent…to run outside, to create games of make-believe, and to play in a bedroom of her very own. 

 

Sadly, many of these childhood freedoms have eluded Sabine, due to a very rare congenital heart defect. Until recently, this life-threatening condition required her to sleep in her parents’ bedroom to be supervised throughout the night.

 

When Sabine was referred to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Massachusetts, her family viewed her wish as a chance to celebrate her improved medical condition. Sabine proudly wished for a bedroom makeover with a special theme: Dora the Explorer, a popular animated character on the Nickelodeon channel.

 

The Foundation recently created the bedroom of Sabine’s dreams. Her fondness for Dora was woven throughout the new furniture, bedding, and wall decorations. Family and friends gathered for a pizza-and-cupcake party to celebrate the grand unveiling…and Dora made a special appearance!

 

Sabine’s family will always cherish her Make-A-Wish experience – the perfect way to honor her courage during her illness, to help her regain her independence, and to give her a special retreat all her own!
