The voice of a wish

Type:  Wish Stories

The Sherborn home of 12-year-old Gracie is filled with the sweet sounds of music.  When Gracie sings, her voice is clear and strong - she is in control.

In other aspects of her life, Gracie does not have control.  At age two, she was diagnosed with a rare genetic disease, Shwachman Diamond Syndrome.  She has spent much of her life at the hospital receiving treatments.  When it comes to illness, Gracie has often had no voice - until the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Massachusetts entered her world.

Gracie wished to meet her favorite American Idol, Kelly Clarkson.  In Los Angeles, Gracie's family watched Clarkson perform at a Burbank sound studio.  After the show, Gracie met Clarkson privately and proudly sang Bonnie Raitt's Let's Give Them Something to Talk About to her idol.

Through the power of a wish, Gracie's voice - and her strength - were clearer than ever.
