Sixth annual gala raises over $700,000 for wishesA Wish Safari

On March 26th, nearly 500 guests ventured deep into the jungle on an inspiring wish safari at the 2011 Make-A-Wish Gala, held at the Intercontinental Boston. Attendees unearthed auction treasures and enjoyed dinner and the upbeat sounds of the Dartmouth Aires. Their energizing a capella performance set the stage for Master of Ceremonies Liz Brunner (WCVB-TV) to introduce wish child explorers Aastha, Anna, Meg, Nicole, Philippe, and Ryan along with Wish Family Ambassadors Mark DiBattista and Denise Fitzsimmons. These children and parents captivated the audience with their inspiring stories and wish adventures. Emmy-award winning hosts and Massachusetts natives Jeff Corwin, wildlife biologist, and outdoorsman Charlie Moore, better known as “The Mad Fisherman,” served as honorary safari guides, leading the audience through Ryan’s San Diego Zoo wish trip and a spirited “live wish reveal” of young John’s wish to fish for blue marlin.

Generosity truly ran wild throughout the evening, which raised over $700,000 – enough to bring the thrill of a wish fulfilled to more than 100 children throughout Massachusetts and Rhode Island in 2011! Thank you to all who contributed to the gala’s resounding success and a special thanks to Presenting Sponsors Steve and Deborah Barnes and Star Sponsors Joshua and Anita Bekenstein, Hal and Jodi Hess, and PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.
