Cooking Up Inspiration for Grace

Type:  Wish Stories

Chef GraceCelebrity chef Anne Burrell cooked up some inspiration when she hosted wish child Grace at the Food Network studios in New York City. Grace is a budding chef who has cardiomyopathy, a heart condition that can leave her tired and can limit her activities. She received a heart transplant last fall and enjoys relaxing while she watches Anne’s television show, Secrets of a Restaurant Chef. Grace was given the opportunity of a lifetime to learn alongside one of America’s best chefs when her wish to meet Anne was granted.

Arriving at the Food Network studios with her family, Grace was presented with a chef’s coat autographed by Anne and given a tour of the kitchen where her show is filmed. One of Grace’s first assignments was to learn how to use a chef’s knife. Once she passed the test, she worked alongside her idol to prepare lunch and dessert and the cooking duo shared in conversation as they savored the meal with Grace’s family. Grace also met Anne’s staff and many other Food Network personalities including Sunny Anderson. From there, it was off to the famed Chelsea Market and later that evening, Grace concluded her memorable day with dinner at Smith & Wollensky, where Anne had made reservations for them to sit at “her” table.

A special surprise of the trip came when Anne, having learned that Grace’s fourteenth birthday was approaching, gave her an early birthday gift of a chef’s knife.  The treasured knife is sure to be part of many delicious meals in Grace’s kitchen as she continues to pursue her culinary dreams.
