Isela's Hopeful Song

Inspiration comes in all forms and for six-year-old Isela, it is the beautiful princess Cinderella and her story of optimism and faith. When the Foundation granted Isela a wish, it was no surprise that this young girl turned her Cinderella dreams into a creative request.

During her treatment for leukemia, Isela watched Cinderella movies constantly and especially loved listening to the movie soundtracks. One song in particular, “I Still Believe,” brought her comfort and lifted her spirits.

Isela wished to meet Hayden Panetierre, the singer and actress whose sang the cover ballad. In preparation for her trip, her Make-A-Wish volunteer team gave Isela a set of princess dolls and a guitar and headset microphone to practice her singing performances. She and her brother and sister enjoyed these treats as they anticipated their trip to Los Angeles.

On the day of their departure, Isela and her siblings ran excitedly into the airport, anticipating their first flight ever. After getting settled into their hotel, she and her family spent a day at Universal Studios. The next morning, they were met by a Make-A-Wish volunteer escort and then, Hayden herself walked into the hotel lobby. Isela sprang to her feet and ran into Hayden’s arms, sharing a hug before making her way, hand-in-hand with Hayden, to a poolside cabana for lunch.

While enjoying their meal, Isela and her sister sang “I Still Believe” with Hayden and shared conversation in both English and Spanish. Isela’s mother was able to tell Hayden in person how important her music was in giving Isela strength to get through her treatment. As the visit continued, Isela and Hayden sang several more songs together, Isela’s voice sweet and earnest alongside her idol. After more conversation, photos, autographs, and hugs for everyone, Hayden asked Isela to keep in touch. With a new pen pal and renewed inspiration, Isela returned home declaring her wish experience as “the best time ever!” Her heart will continue to sing as she savors the memories of her afternoon with Hayden.
