The seven-year-old happily supervised the team of volunteers from Gilbane Building Company, who assembled the cottage over two days. Its Cape Cod-style shingles match those on Julia’s real home and teal shutters and doors add a vibrant touch. A skylight lets in plenty of sunshine and enables her to gaze at the moon and stars as she falls asleep nestled in the cozy sleeping loft. Downstairs, child-size wooden kitchen appliances and furniture set the stage for Julia’s imaginative play. She tends to the flowers in her window boxes with pride and continues to add personal touches to her cottage as she eagerly welcomes visitors. With a bubbling fountain outside and a stream meandering past it, Julia’s playhouse rises as if from a fairytale on the edge of the woods, the perfect setting for enchanted days of childhood play and whimsy! ![]() Photos: Julia supervises construction of her playhouse and enjoys the front porch with her family and Phil Leffert, Vice President and Chief Purchasing Agent at Gilbane Building Company and a member of the Foundation’s Rhode Island Advisory Board.
