Greer’s Wish Adds Sparkle to Her Life

Greer wished for a puppy to be her friend and help her with daily living needs, like crossing her legs and picking up dropped items. Her wish came true in the form of a miniature poodle named Sparkle! Sparkle arrived at Logan Airport in Boston wearing a sparkly dog tag that Greer picked out and mailed to her ahead of her journey. Greer was dressed in a special outfit she chose for the occasion, complete with sparkling buttons and gold sparkle nail polish. Greer greeted Sparkle with pats and smiles. Nibbling on treats
from her new family, the puppy clearly knew she was in good hands. “She wants to stay with me!” exclaimed Greer as a smile lit up her face.
After a limousine ride home, Greer and her family helped Sparkle settle into her new surroundings. The wish included a shopping spree at a local Petland and weekly training sessions for Sparkle and Greer. Greer’s mother reports that the puppy is very gentle and caring and the two are instant best friends. Even before Sparkle has learned new tricks, it is clear that she has already achieved a great accomplishment: putting the sparkle back in Greer’s eyes! Greer is a loving, personable three-year-old who suffers from spinal muscular atrophy, a degenerative neuromuscular disease that limits her mobility, compromises her immune system, and requires a team of specialists to manage its many symptoms. With numerous medical and assistive devices and several doctors’ appointments each week, this remarkable girl manages to keep smiling through it all.
